Australian rock legends INXS will be the headline act at this year’s Armor All Townsville 400 in July.
The announcement was made today in Townsville by V8 Supercars acting CEO Shane Howard and inaugural Townsville race winner James Courtney.
Howard says the INXS concert cements Townsville’s place as one of the signature events of the Championship series.
“To secure one of Australia’s greatest ever bands, INXS, to play at the Armor All Townsville 400 is a huge bonus for the event and for North Queensland,” Howard said.
“The Saturday night concert, included in the event ticket price, is a great way to thank the people of Northern Queensland who showed incredible support for the inaugural 2009 event – smashing our expectations with a crowd of more than 168,000 people over the three days.
“The ‘Rock n’ Race’ concept is proven as part of our strategy to provide both the best racing in the world combined with the best entertainment.”
INXS are international rock legends, having sold over 30 million albums and played to sold-out stadium gigs around the world.
Howard says that the inaugural Townsville 400, which took out the 2009 V8 Supercars Event of the Year Award, is a ‘must see’ and tickets are already selling fast.
“I would encourage people to get in quick for their tickets. The Platinum Grandstands have already sold out – but there are still plenty of Gold and Silver grandstand tickets available, as well as general admission. We have also received an overwhelming demand for Corporate Facilities,” he said.
Since the outstanding inaugural event in 2009 the precinct has developed considerably with the hills areas now fully grassed.
Race winner Courtney said the drivers can’t wait to get back to Townsville 400.
“The people of North Queensland take such pride in the event and this creates a real buzz,” the Jim Beam Racing driver said.
“The facilities and the track are first-rate and we can’t wait for July.”
The 2010 Armor All Townsville 400 will take place on July 9-11.
